Heat a saucepan over medium heat and melt butter within it. Allow the onion to cook in the melted butter, stirring frequently, until it becomes translucent and softens, taking approximately 7 to 10 minutes.

Simultaneously, bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add egg noodles and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are partially cooked, taking around 5 minutes. Drain the noodles and return them to the pot.

Next, pour the cooked onion mixture over the noodles, then stir in cottage cheese, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is heated through and the noodles are tender yet retain some firmness to the bite, taking 5 to 8 minutes.
