Ingredients
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
- 4 carrots, halved
- 4 stalks celery, halved
- 1 large onion, halved
- water to cover
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
Instructions
1
Collect all the necessary components required for this dish.
2
Place chicken, carrots, celery, and onion in a large soup pot; add sufficient cold water to immerse the ingredients completely. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a rolling boil; subsequently, decrease the heat to a low setting and allow the ingredients to cook slowly, uncovered, until the meat becomes tender and easily separates from the bone, approximately 1.5 hours. Periodically remove any foam that forms on the surface of the liquid, as necessary.
3
Take the chicken from the pot and permit it to cool slightly before handling; disassemble the meat into smaller pieces, discarding any excess skin and bones in the process.
4
Pass the vegetables through a fine-mesh sieve to extract the flavorful liquid, reserving it for later use; thoroughly clean the soup pot and then return the reserved stock to the vessel. Chop the vegetables into smaller, more manageable pieces; reinsert the chopped chicken and vegetables back into the pot.
5
Heat the soup until it reaches a comfortable temperature; add salt, pepper, and chicken bouillon to taste, allowing the flavors to meld together.
6
Present the dish and indulge in its delightful flavors!
