Classic Stovetop Popcorn
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
1
Heat the oil in a 2- to 3-quart cooking vessel with a lid, positioned over medium-high heat. Introduce the popcorn kernels into the pot and sprinkle an adequate amount of salt to lightly cover the layer of kernels. It's better to start with a small amount, as you can always add more salt later if needed. Add butter to the pot and secure it with the lid.
2
As soon as the kernels start popping, gently rock the pot back and forth across the burner continuously until the popping slows down. When the pops are about 2 seconds apart, disconnect from heat and transfer popcorn into a serving container. Sample the popcorn and season with additional salt if desired.
