Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup dried minced onion
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, or more to taste
- 1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 cup beef broth
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 6 buns
Instructions
1
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, taking around 10 minutes; discard any excess fat that accumulates.
2
Combine ketchup, dried onion, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, and garlic in the skillet with the ground beef, stirring until the brown sugar has fully incorporated.
3
Add broth to the mixture and bring it to a rolling boil, stirring frequently. Once boiling, lower the heat to a low setting and let it simmer until it reaches a thickened consistency, approximately 30 minutes.
4
Season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve the cooked ground beef mixture on hamburger buns
