Remove the outer layers from 5 lemons and cut them into thin, half-inch pieces. Set these lemon slices aside momentarily.

Place the lemon rinds in a container and generously cover them with granulated sugar. Allow this mixture to sit for approximately one hour, allowing the sugar to absorb the fragrant oils released by the lemons.

Heat water to a rolling boil in a covered saucepan and then carefully pour the hot water over the sugared lemon rinds. Permit this mixture to cool for 20 minutes, after which you can remove the rinds.

Extract the juice from the remaining lemons and pour it into another bowl. Carefully strain the lemon juice through a fine-mesh sieve into the sugar mixture, stirring well to combine. Transfer the resulting liquid to a pitcher and refrigerate immediately! Serve chilled with ice cubes.
