Classic Jewish Noodle Kugel
Ingredients
  • 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon, for dusting
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature, specifically 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), to prepare it for baking.
2
Fill a large pot with water that has been lightly seasoned with salt, and bring it to a furious boil over extremely high heat. Add the noodles and return the pot to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally until they reach your desired level of firmness, approximately 5 minutes. Remove the noodles from the water and drain them thoroughly.
3
Place the cooked noodles in a large serving container. Melt the margarine by stirring it into the noodles until fully incorporated. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, applesauce, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour the egg mixture into a 9x13-inch baking pan, followed by sprinkling it with cinnamon. Cover the pan with aluminum foil to prevent overcooking.
4
Bake the noodle mixture in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then remove the foil to allow it to continue baking until a golden brown color is achieved, requiring an additional 20-30 minutes.
