Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups raisins
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, at room temperature
- 3 eggs, at room temperature
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit, which is equivalent to 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a moment to lubricate the inside of your 9-inch round cake pan using some cooking spray or butter. This will ensure that the bread releases easily once it's baked.
3
In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients of flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, gently work the butter into the dry ingredients until they form a cohesive mixture. Then, stir in your raisins to add some extra flavor and texture.
4
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and eggs until they're fully incorporated. Using a fork or whisk, gently fold this wet mixture into the dry ingredients until they're just combined.
5
Carefully pour your dough into the prepared cake pan, making sure to spread it evenly across the bottom.
6
Then, place your cake in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes to an hour, or until it's risen beautifully and the top is a golden brown color. To check if it's done, insert a knife into the center of the bread - if it comes out clean, you know it's ready.
7
Once your cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes before taking it out to serve.
