SERVINGS

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 6 slices white bread
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 12 slices thinly sliced deli ham
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
1
Apply a thin layer of butter to one side of every slice of bread, covering an area roughly the size of a small plate. For three slices, apply a thin layer of Dijon mustard to the buttered side and place four slices of ham on top. For the other three slices, apply a thin layer of mayonnaise to the buttered side and place two slices of Swiss cheese on top. Press the ham or cheese sides of each sandwich together firmly.
2
In a shallow, flat dish, combine flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, and water in a bowl, stirring until the ingredients are well incorporated. Set the mixture aside for now.
3
Melt the remaining butter and heat vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Dip both sides of each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating them evenly, and then fry in the oil and butter until golden brown on both sides, flipping to ensure even browning.
