Classic Chili
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 4 teaspoons finely chopped jalapeno chile peppers
  • 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans, undrained
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary components for the dish.
2
Melt ground beef, onion, and bell pepper in a substantial saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir constantly until the beef is nicely browned, approximately 5 minutes. Discard any surplus fat that accumulates.
3
Add a pinch of heat with chili powder, garlic, cumin, and bay leaf. Mix well to distribute the flavors.
4
Introduce tomatoes, tomato sauce, and jalapeños into the mixture. Bring the ingredients to a rolling boil before gradually decreasing the heat to low. Cover the saucepan and let it gently simmer, occasionally stirring the contents, for 1 1/2 hours.
5
Add beans to the mixture and allow them to warm through.
6
Finish with a sprinkle of salt and pepper according to your preference.
