Classic Chicken Marsala
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter, divided
  • 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken meat - cut into 12 pieces
  • 2 slices bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup dry Marsala wine
Instructions
1
Melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter in a medium-sized cooking vessel. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they become tender. Transfer the mixture to a small, covered container.
2
In another shallow dish or bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in this flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated, and then shake off any excess.
3
Cook the bacon in the same skillet over low heat until it reaches a cooked but not crispy state. Melt an additional 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet. Add the chicken and cook over medium heat for 2 minutes on each side, adding more butter if necessary to prevent the chicken from burning.
4
Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate and keep it warm by covering it. In a separate medium-sized bowl, slowly add water to the cornstarch and whisk until smooth. Then, whisk in a small amount of wine. Add this mixture to the skillet with the reserved mushrooms and heat until the sauce starts to boil and thickens. Place the cooked chicken on top of this sauce and serve.
