Classic Cheeseburgers
Ingredients
  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground black pepper
  • 4 cheddar cheese slices (about 112 g)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) mustard
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) mayonnaise
  • Lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and onion slices (for serving)
  • Optional: pickles or other burger toppings
Instructions
1
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (around 375°F / 190°C). In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the meat into 4 equal patties, about ¾ inch thick.
2
Place the patties on the hot grill. Cook for about 4–5 minutes on each side for medium doneness (internal temperature 160°F/71°C), or longer for well done. If using cheese, top each patty with a slice of cheddar in the last minute of grilling to melt.
3
(Optional) Toast the hamburger buns briefly on the grill, cut-side down, until lightly browned.
4
Assemble the burgers: spread ketchup, mustard, and/or mayonnaise on the buns. Add a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, and an onion slice. Place the burger patty on the bun and top with pickles or extra condiments if you like. Serve immediately, while hot and juicy.
