Classic Baked Alaska Dessert
Ingredients
  • 2 quarts vanilla ice cream, softened, or as needed
  • 8 large egg whites
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 8-inch round prepared white cake layer
Instructions
1
Acquire all necessary ingredients beforehand.
2
Cover the 8-inch round mixing bowl with a layer of plastic wrap, ensuring it lines both the bottom and sides. Fill the prepared bowl with softened ice cream, then press down on the top to create a flat surface. Cover this again with additional plastic wrap and place it in the freezer to harden, a process that can take anywhere from 8 hours to overnight.
3
Combine egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt in a mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
4
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and position the cake in the center. Remove the ice cream from the freezer, discard the plastic wrap covering it, and carefully pour the frozen ice cream over the cake.
5
Swiftly spread meringue over the ice cream and cake, creating intricate patterns if you prefer. Place it back in the freezer for 2 hours.
6
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
7
Position the cake on the lowest shelf in the oven and bake until the meringue is a light brown color, taking around 8 to 10 minutes.
8
Slice and indulge in your creation!
