Classic Apple Bavarian Torte with Almond Base
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit (230 degrees Celsius).
2
Mix the butter, one-third cup sugar, and a hint of vanilla in a bowl until it forms a smooth consistency. Combine this mixture with flour to create the crust, then press it into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan. Set the crust aside for now.
3
In another bowl, combine cream cheese and one-quarter cup sugar. Add an egg to this mixture and a dash of vanilla, then blend until smooth.
4
Pour the cheese mixture over the crust you prepared earlier. Next, combine one-third cup sugar and half a teaspoon of cinnamon in another bowl.
5
Toss sliced apples with the sugar mixture you just created, then spread them evenly over the cheese filling.
6
Bake the torte in the oven for 10 minutes. After this initial baking time, reduce the heat to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) and continue baking for an additional 25 minutes.
7
Sprinkle sliced almonds over the top of the torte before finishing its baking time. The goal is to have the almonds lightly browned and the apples tender.
8
Once the torte is done, let it cool before removing it from its springform pan.
