  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 12 dry lasagna noodles
  • 1 pint part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Collect and prepare all necessary ingredients.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic for 5 minutes; discard excess fat.

Combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, dried basil, 1 ½ teaspoons salt, and dried oregano in the skillet; stir to combine. Simmer the meat sauce mixture for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook lasagna noodles until they are tender yet still slightly firm, about 8 minutes; drain excess water. Lay the cooked noodles flat on paper towels to remove excess moisture.

In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, chopped parsley, and the remaining 1 teaspoon salt. Mix well.

Place a third of the cooked lasagna noodles in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with half of the ricotta mixture.

Spread half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta layer, followed by one-third of the meat sauce. Repeat this process.

Top with the remaining lasagna noodles and meat sauce, then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese over the top.
