Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup white sugar
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius). Next, lightly coat a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray to prevent the bread from sticking.
2
Then, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Mix the ingredients well.
3
In a separate large mixing bowl, cream 1 cup of sugar and 8 ounces of softened butter together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
4
Add 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice and the grated zest of 1 orange to the butter mixture. Mix until combined.
5
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
6
Bake the bread in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
7
Remove the bread from the oven, but do not remove it from the pan. Allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
8
While the bread is still warm, combine 1/2 cup of orange juice with 1/4 cup of sugar in a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
9
Spoon the warm orange glaze over the top of the bread. Let it stand in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely.
