Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 3 large eggs
- 2/3 cup superfine sugar
- 2/3 cup salted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup superfine sugar
- 1/4 cup orange juice
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) for optimal results.
2
Rub a 9-inch round cake pan with butter and dust it generously with flour to prevent the cake from sticking.
3
Mix together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 4 large eggs, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of softened butter, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice, 1 tablespoon of grated orange peel, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder in a large bowl.
4
Using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer, blend the ingredients until they form a smooth batter with a pale appearance.
5
Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
6
Once done, remove the cake from the oven and let it rest in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack with a tray underneath.
7
While the cake is cooling, prepare a simple glaze by mixing together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice in a small bowl.
8
Once the cake has cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over it and let it cool completely before slicing into individual portions.
