Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a hot temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
To create the shortbread, combine flour, softened butter, and sugar in a medium-sized bowl until they form a cohesive mixture with a crumbly texture. Press this mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan.
3
Place the prepared shortbread in the preheated oven and bake until it reaches a dry, light golden brown color, taking approximately 20 minutes to achieve this.
4
To prepare the caramel, combine butter, brown sugar, condensed milk, and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and maintain this state for 5 minutes before removing it from the heat.
5
Using a wooden spoon, vigorously beat the caramel mixture for about 3 minutes to achieve the desired consistency.
6
Pour the cooled or warm shortbread crust over the prepared caramel mixture and allow it to sit at room temperature for 2-3 hours, during which time the caramel will begin to firm up.
7
Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl on high for 1 minute, then stir and continue to heat it in 20-second intervals until the chocolate reaches a smooth, melted state.
8
Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread it evenly to cover the entire surface. Refrigerate until the chocolate is set, approximately 30 minutes later.
9
Cut the final product into bars and serve.
