Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 5 tablespoons salted butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius.
2
Make a custard by combining eggs and brown sugar in a large mixing container until you achieve a smooth consistency. Whisk the mixture to incorporate flour and salt, ensuring they are fully incorporated. Gradually add milk while stirring continuously until the mixture is well combined. Introduce vanilla into the mixture and set it aside to allow it to settle.
3
Prepare your apples by melting butter, brown sugar, and water in a 10 1/4-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Stir the mixture frequently until it reaches a boiling point. Reduce the heat to medium and continue stirring, but avoid mixing, until the mixture thickens, approximately 2 minutes. Add sliced apples and cinnamon to the skillet. Cook and stir until the apples are tender, crisp, and starting to brown, around 15 to 18 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat.
4
Mix the custard with a spoon until well combined, then pour it over the apples in the skillet.
5
Bake the mixture in your preheated oven until the edges are golden brown and the custard has set, taking 28 to 35 minutes.
6
At this point, your dish is ready for serving.
