Christmas Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients
  • 16 slices bread, crusts removed - divided
  • 16 slices Canadian bacon
  • 16 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons diced green bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons diced red bell pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 dash hot sauce
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup crushed corn flakes cereal
Instructions
1
Prepare a 9x13-inch baking vessel by applying a layer of butter. Arrange 8 slices of bread to perfectly cover the entire surface of the dish. Cover the bread with 8 slices of Canadian bacon and sharp Cheddar cheese, ensuring a seamless fit. Place the remaining 8 slices of bread on top of the bacon and cheese, creating a uniform layer.
2
In a bowl, combine eggs with salt and black pepper to create a smooth mixture. Incorporate dry mustard, onion, diced green and red bell peppers, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce into the egg mixture. Continue to blend until the ingredients are fully incorporated. Gradually whisk in milk, achieving a smooth and consistent texture.
3
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole, covering every surface. Cover the dish with a lid and refrigerate it overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
4
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Pour melted butter over the casserole, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle corn flake crumbs over the top of the dish to add a crunchy texture.
5
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake until it is set and lightly browned, approximately 1 hour. Allow the casserole to stand for 10 minutes before serving.
