Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons cornmeal
- 6 cups bread flour
- 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
1
Heat the milk and water in a small saucepan over low heat until it reaches a very warm temperature (125 degrees F/50 degrees C).
2
Grease the two 8x4 inch loaf pans lightly with butter or cooking spray; sprinkle a thin layer of cornmeal into the prepared pans.
3
Combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Stir the warm milk into the flour mixture until well combined; beat the mixture thoroughly. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, stirring continuously until a stiff batter forms. Pour the batter into the prepared pans. Cover the pans and let the mixture rise in a warm, draft-free area for approximately 45 minutes, or until it has nearly doubled in size.
4
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) while the mixture is rising.
5
Place the loaves in the preheated oven and bake until they are golden brown, approximately 25 minutes.
