Ingredients
- 2 (4 ounce) patties ground beef
- 1 pinch salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 cups beef stock
- 4 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 2 drops sesame oil, or to taste
- 2 teaspoons unsalted butter, divided
- 2 tablespoons minced green onions, white and light green parts only
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups hot cooked white rice
Instructions
1
Prepare the patties by sprinkling salt, pepper, and a pinch of heat with cayenne on both sides; place them aside temporarily
2
Combine the beef stock, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cornstarch, ketchup, sugar, and sesame oil in a bowl; set it aside for later use
3
Melt 1 teaspoon of butter in a hot skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties in the skillet until they develop a nice golden brown color on the bottom, taking around 5 minutes. Flip them over and cook for an additional 4 to 5 minutes, or until they are both browned. Remove the patties and most of the green onions to a plate
4
Pour the mixture of beef stock, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cornstarch, ketchup, sugar, and sesame oil into the skillet. Stir constantly, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, until it thickens to your liking, taking about 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and reserve the gravy for later use
5
Melt the remaining 1 teaspoon of butter in another skillet over medium heat. Add eggs to the skillet and cook them side-by-side until their whites are set and their yolks remain runny
6
Divide the rice between 2 serving bowls. Place the patties on top of the rice, spoon some of the reserved gravy over them, and add a few fried eggs on top
7
Serve the dish hot and enjoy your meal
