Cheesy Tamale Bake
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can cream-style corn
  • 1 (6 ounce) box cornbread mix
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary components before commencing the recipe.
2
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
3
Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Cook and stir ground beef in the hot skillet until it reaches a brown, crumbly state, approximately 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard excess fat. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper to the ground beef.
4
Combine the cooked ground beef with an onion, stirring constantly over medium heat for 1 minute. Immediately remove the skillet from the heat source.
5
Introduce pinto beans and crushed tomatoes into the mixture, stirring until well combined.
6
In a separate bowl, blend together cream-style corn, cornbread mix, and an egg until the mixture is smooth.
7
Spread this mixture evenly over the ground beef in the skillet. Sprinkle a layer of Cheddar cheese on top.
8
Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is melted and the cornbread mixture has set, approximately 25 minutes.
