Ingredients
- 24 large mushrooms, stems removed, or more as needed
- 1 pound bulk hot Italian sausage
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 ounces grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit, which is equivalent to 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Carefully remove each mushroom cap from the stem and set the stems aside for later use.
3
Heat a skillet over high heat, then add sausage, onion, and the reserved mushroom scraps. Cook constantly until the sausage is nicely browned and fully cooked, taking anywhere from 4 to 6 minutes.
4
Discard the excess grease that has accumulated in the skillet and return the sausage mixture to it.
5
Mix 3 ounces of Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, garlic, and parsley into the sausage mixture. Cook constantly until everything is heated through, which should take around 3 to 5 minutes.
6
Fill each mushroom cap with the sausage mixture and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7
Bake the stuffed mushrooms in the preheated oven for 12 minutes. Top each mushroom with the remaining 1 ounce of Parmesan cheese and bake until they are fully cooked through, the cheese is melted and bubbly, and everything is heated through, taking about 3 minutes.
