Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 (7 ounce) packages sweet yellow cornbread mix (such as Martha White®)
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 (15 ounce) can creamed corn
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, or more to taste
Instructions
1
Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and bring it to a high temperature. Sear the beef in the hot skillet until it reaches a satisfying brown color and becomes crumbly, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the cooked beef from the skillet and discard any excess fat that accumulates.
2
Take your oven and set its temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. This will ensure that the dish is cooked evenly.
3
In a large mixing container, combine the cornbread mix, milk, and eggs. Blend these ingredients together until they form a smooth batter. Then, stir in the creamed corn to add moisture and flavor.
4
Take the beef mixture from the skillet and transfer it to the bottom of a baking dish. Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese over the top of the beef mixture.
5
Pour the cornbread batter over the cheese, creating a layered effect. This will add texture and visual appeal to your dish.
6
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake until it reaches a golden brown color, indicated by a toothpick inserted into the center coming out clean. This should take around 17 to 22 minutes.
7
Once the dish is baked, remove it from the oven and spread a layer of butter over the top. This will add richness and flavor to your finished dish.
8
Allow the dish to cool for 5 minutes before slicing it into individual portions. This will help prevent burns and make the dish easier to handle.
