Cheesy Baked Ziti Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 (16 ounce) package ziti
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 2 cups tomato sauce, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1
Prepare a large container of salted water to reach its boiling point. Cook ziti in the boiling water until it reaches a fully cooked state but still retains some firmness, approximately 13 minutes; drain. Submerge ziti in cold water to rapidly decrease its temperature until it cools down; drain.
2
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (the equivalent temperature of 190 degrees Celsius). Combine ziti, ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, an egg, salt, and pepper in a large mixing vessel.
3
Place 1/2 cup of tomato sauce at the bottom of a 2 1/2-quart shallow baking dish. Pour the ziti mixture into the prepared dish. Cover the top of the dish with the remaining 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce and a layer of Parmesan cheese.
4
Bake the dish in your preheated oven until the sauce and cheese layer is bubbly and lightly browned, approximately 30 minutes. Allow the dish to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
