Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
Instructions
1
Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef in the hot skillet until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, taking approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
2
Add sliced bell peppers, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet; continue cooking until they start to soften and become tender, roughly 5 minutes additional.
3
In a separate bowl, combine water, cornstarch, bouillon powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix the ingredients well to create a smooth paste.
4
Add the cornstarch mixture to the beef and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and gradually decrease the heat to a lower temperature. Allow the mixture to simmer until the sauce thickens and the vegetables are fully tender, taking around 7 to 10 minutes.
5
Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
6
Add shredded mozzarella cheese to the skillet; cover it again until the cheese is fully melted and combined with the rest of the mixture, approximately 2 minutes.
7
Serve the beef mixture on toasted buns in a style reminiscent of Sloppy Joes.
