Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 4 ounces white fish
- 1 cup milk, or to taste
- 5 medium potatoes, peeled
- 2 tablespoons butter
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
- 1/2 cup shredded white Cheddar cheese
- 1 (14.75 ounce) can skinless, boneless salmon, drained and flaked
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a small amount of olive oil and coat the interior of an oven-safe dish. Place the white fish inside the prepared baking dish, then pour in enough milk to cover it partially.
3
Thus, boil a large quantity of salted water in another pot. Add the potatoes to this boiling water and continue cooking until they become tender enough to be pierced with a fork, which should take approximately 20 minutes.
4
Simultaneously, bake the fish in the preheated oven for a duration of 20 minutes. Remove it from the oven and carefully pour off the excess milk into a measuring container for future use; reserve this liquid for later incorporation into the potatoes. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 degrees Celsius.
5
After that, drain the cooked potatoes and return them to their original pot. Place this pot on a stovetop burner, allowing any excess moisture from the potatoes to evaporate. Add butter, salt, and pepper to these potatoes, then mash them for a minute using a masher or spoon.
6
Then, gradually add the reserved milk to these mashed potatoes, stirring continuously until they achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. Finally, incorporate the thawed peas into these mashed potatoes with care to avoid damaging them.
7
Now, flake the white fish into small pieces within the prepared baking dish. Combine this with the flaked salmon and mix well to ensure an even distribution.
8
Following that, drop spoonfuls of the mashed potatoes onto the fish and spread them evenly to cover. Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese on top of these mashed potatoes.
9
Lastly, bake the fish and potato mixture in the oven for an additional 20 minutes.
