  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup half-and-half cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 eggs, beaten

Firstly, preheat your oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or 200 degrees Celsius for those using metric measurements).

Next, fill a large pot with about an inch of water and bring it to a rolling boil. Then, place the broccoli into a steamer basket over the boiling water and steam it until it reaches your desired level of tenderness, but still retains a hint of firmness. This should take around five minutes.

In another bowl, combine the Cheddar cheese with three-quarters of a cup of flour, half a teaspoon of salt, and a dash of mustard. Mix in one-quarter cup of melted butter until the mixture is evenly moistened and cohesive. Press this mixture into the bottom and sides of an 8-inch pie dish.

In a separate skillet, melt one tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and mushrooms to the pan and sauté until they are tender and fragrant. Then, stir in two tablespoons of flour, half-and-half, the remaining half a teaspoon of salt, and a pinch of nutmeg. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for one minute before removing it from the heat.
