Ingredients
- 4 cups cider vinegar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/3 cups ketchup
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabascoâ„¢)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Instructions
1
Combine vinegar, sugar, ketchup, butter, hot pepper sauce, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes in a saucepan. Heat the mixture over high heat until it reaches a boil, then decrease the heat to medium-low and let it gently bubble, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Transfer the saucepan contents to a heat-resistant container and refrigerate the mixture for 2 days.
2
Strain the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve to separate the solids from the liquid, discarding the red pepper flakes. Place the sauce in the refrigerator and allow it to chill before serving at room temperature.
