Carmelized Onion Bacon Pie
Ingredients
  • 6 pounds onions, sliced
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
  • 4 egg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed
  • 1 package pastry double crust pie
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the high heat setting of 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, prepare a large rectangular baking dish or pizza pan by covering its surface with the dough you have been working with. Ensure that the dough covers the entire sides of the pan, creating a solid foundation for your dish.
3
In a separate cooking vessel, heat some oil over high heat and sauté the onion until it becomes translucent. Transfer the cooked onion to a large mixing container.
4
In another cooking vessel, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until it is evenly browned. Remove from heat, chop into small pieces and add to the onion mixture; stir until well combined.
5
Mix in a generous amount of sour cream. In a separate bowl, break up the egg yolks using a fork until they are mostly broken down. Then, combine them with the onion mixture.
6
Add some flour to thicken the mixture, taking into account that the onions will release a significant amount of liquid during cooking. Finally, add some salt to taste and mix everything together until it is well combined.
7
Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle a generous amount of caraway seeds on top before placing it in the oven.
8
Bake your dish in the preheated oven until the onions on top start to turn a golden brown color, approximately 1 hour.
