Ingredients
- 3 pounds lean ground beef
- 2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 bunch (1-inch) pieces green onions
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Maggi™ liquid seasoning
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon vinegar-based hot pepper sauce
- 2 recipes pie crust pastry
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
1
Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, green onions, soy sauce, Maggi seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Use your hands to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
2
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius). This high temperature will help crisp up the pies during baking.
3
Roll out the pie crust dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch, and cut it into six-inch circles using a large coffee can. This will give you the perfect size for your savory pies.
4
Place a generous spoonful of the meat mixture onto the center of each dough circle, then fold over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly using the tines of a fork, and arrange the pies on baking sheets.
5
If you prefer to freeze the pies at this stage, they can be stored in an airtight container for later use.
6
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined. This will create a smooth, even coating for your pies.
7
Brush the egg wash over the tops of each pie to add a golden glaze and enhance their appearance.
8
Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until they are golden brown. If you're baking frozen pies, add an additional 10 minutes to the cooking time.
