Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon margarine, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
1
Start by mixing yeast, sugar, and warm water in a small bowl until the yeast is fully dissolved. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes, or until it reaches a smooth consistency.
2
Next, combine the yeast mixture with oil, margarine, salt, and 1.5 cups of flour in a large bowl. Stir everything together until it's well combined.
3
Gradually add the remaining 0.5 cups of flour, one half-cup at a time, and make sure to mix it in thoroughly after each addition. Continue this process until the dough comes together, and then transfer it to a lightly floured surface for kneading. Spend about 8 minutes kneading the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable.
4
To prepare the dough for rising, lightly grease a large bowl with oil. Place the dough inside and make sure it's evenly coated. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth, and let the dough rise in a warm environment until it has doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
5
Once the dough is ready to be shaped, deflate it and transfer it onto a lightly floured surface. Form the dough into a loaf shape, and then place it into a 9x5 inch loaf pan that has been lightly greased. Cover the pan with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 15 minutes.
6
While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
7
Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until it reaches a golden brown color on top and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped. Remove the loaf from the oven, let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes, and then transfer it to a rack to cool completely.
