Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 Scotch bonnet chile
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 beef bouillon
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons browning
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
1
Gather all necessary ingredients and equipment before commencing the preparation process.
2
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 200 degrees Celsius, in order to achieve the desired temperature for cooking.
3
Combine flour, a specific amount of curry powder, and salt in a bowl to create the pastry mixture.
4
Cut in butter and shortening until the mixture has a coarse, crumbly texture.
5
Gradually add water to the bowl and mix until the dough forms a cohesive ball.
6
Divide the dough into 10 equal portions, shape each portion into a log, and cut it into individual pieces.
7
Using a lightly floured surface, roll out each piece of dough into a 6-inch circle with an approximate thickness of 1/8 inch.
8
Set the rolled-out dough aside for later use.
9
In a separate pan, melt butter over medium heat to initiate the cooking process.
10
Add diced onion and Scotch bonnet pepper to the pan, stirring occasionally until they are softened, approximately 2 minutes.
11
Introduce ground beef into the pan and stir constantly to achieve an even browning, about 8-10 minutes.
12
Add a specific amount of curry powder, allspice, ground cloves, thyme, pepper, and salt to the pan, stirring constantly until the beef is evenly browned.
13
Add a bouillon cube and stir in 1/2 cup of water, along with browning sauce, to combine the ingredients.
14
Add a bay leaf to the pan and simmer until the liquid is absorbed; then discard the bay leaf.
15
Stir in bread crumbs to complete the beef filling mixture.
16
Using a spoon, divide the filling into equal portions and place each portion onto a pastry circle.
17
Fold over the pastry to form a half-circle, pressing edges together to seal the filling inside; use the back of a fork to press and secure the edges.
18
Brush the tops of the pastries with beaten egg for added flavor and texture.
19
Arrange the pastries on a baking sheet, leaving space between each pastry to allow for even cooking.
20
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake until golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.
