Ingredients
- 10 slices bread, crusts removed and bread cut into triangles diagonally
- 1 cup vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds
- 1/4 cup chopped cashews
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (equivalent to 150 degrees Celsius).
2
Take the bread triangles and place them on a baking sheet, then bake in the preheated oven until they are lightly browned and dry, taking about 5 minutes per side.
3
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the bread triangles in batches until they are golden brown, taking around 2 to 4 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bread from the skillet and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels.
4
In a separate saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cardamom, then cook over medium heat until the syrup has reduced slightly, taking about 10 to 15 minutes. Dip the bread triangles into the warm syrup until they are fully saturated, then transfer them to a plate.
5
Take a heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat the milk over medium-low heat until it starts to simmer. Transfer the soaked bread triangles into the simmering milk, then cook over low heat until the milk has been absorbed by the bread and the fat separates, taking about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in some raisins. Finally, garnish with almonds and cashews.
