Ingredients
- 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 cup cashews
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
Instructions
1
Heat a substantial pan with a heavy bottom over medium heat, allowing the ghee to melt.
2
Cook the cashews and raisins in the melted ghee, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and plump, and the cashews develop a light brown color. This process should take around 5 minutes.
3
Use a slotted spoon to carefully remove the cashews and raisins from the pan, then set them aside for later use.
4
Add the flour to the same pan and cook until it turns a deep brown color, with a nutty aroma. This step should take about 10 minutes.
5
In the meantime, combine water and sugar in a separate saucepan and bring them to a boil.
6
Once the sugar has dissolved, creating a clear syrup, stir in the cardamom powder.
7
Gradually pour the syrup over the roasted flour mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
8
Continue cooking until the halwa mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan, indicating it's done. This should take around 5 minutes more.
9
Transfer the halwa mixture to a serving dish and spread it evenly.
10
Sprinkle the cooked cashews and raisins over the halwa layer to serve.
