Ingredients
- 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1 (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Next, take a moment to grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with some cooking spray or butter.
2
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. Place the saucepan over low heat and stir constantly until the mixture becomes smooth, then set it aside for a moment.
3
In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, melted butter, and the remaining 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. Use your hands to mix everything together until you achieve a dough-like consistency. Press half of the dough into the prepared baking dish.
4
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, sprinkle some chocolate chips over the crust, and then pour the caramel mixture evenly over the top of the chocolate.
5
Return the dish to the oven, crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer, and continue baking for 15-18 minutes more. Remove from the oven once it's done.
6
Finally, refrigerate the dish for a while to allow the caramel to set before cutting it into bars.
