Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1 cup chopped pecans, divided
- 12 slices French or Italian-style bread
- 6 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
Instructions
1
Combine 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter and 2 tablespoons corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and reaches your desired consistency.
2
Transfer the sauce to a 9x13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with 1/2 cup of chopped pecans. Place 6 slices of bread on top, followed by a sprinkle of the remaining pecans and another layer of 6 slices of bread.
3
In a blender, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and salt until you have a smooth mixture. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
4
Thirty minutes before you plan to bake, remove the French toast from the refrigerator. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
5
Bake the French toast in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until it is lightly browned.
6
While the French toast is baking, prepare the caramel sauce. Combine the remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup butter and 1 tablespoon corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and reaches your desired consistency.
7
Drizzle the caramel sauce over the French toast just before serving.
