Ingredients
- 3 baking apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon apple pie spice
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 3/4 cup applesauce
- 3 tablespoons buttermilk
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1
Heat the skillet over high heat, combining apples, brown sugar, and butter. Add salt to taste. Cook for 30 minutes or until the mixture is tender and has a rich consistency.
2
Prepare your oven by preheating it to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Grease a muffin tin and divide the apple mixture evenly among its cups.
3
Combine dry ingredients, including flour, brown sugar, baking powder, apple pie spice, and salt in a large bowl. Create a small indentation in the center of the mixture and set it aside.
4
Combine butter, applesauce, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the well you created earlier. Mix until just combined, leaving some lumps in the batter.
5
Pour the wet ingredients over the apple mixture in the muffin cups. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6
Allow the muffins to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before running a knife around their edges. Flip the pan onto a serving platter and serve the muffins hot.
