Campfire-Seared Trout
Ingredients
  • 1 pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups apple - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon water
Instructions
1
Firstly, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (or 165 degrees Celsius). Next, take a pie dish and line it with one of the pastry crusts you have on hand.
2
In a large mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Using a whisk or spoon, mix these dry ingredients together until they're well combined.
3
Now, add sliced apples, maple syrup, and a whole egg to the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until you have a smooth, apple-filled mixture.
4
Pour this delicious mixture into the prepared pie crust. Cover it with the second pastry crust, seal the edges by pressing them together firmly, and trim away any excess dough.
5
Make a few small holes in the top crust to allow steam to escape while it bakes. This will help your pie cook evenly and prevent the crust from bursting.
6
In a small bowl, whisk together an egg yolk and water until they're well mixed. Brush this mixture over the top crust of your pie to give it a golden brown finish.
7
Cover your pie loosely with aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Then, bake it in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.
8
Remove the foil and continue baking your pie until the crust is golden brown, taking about 15 minutes more.
9
Finally, let your pie cool on a wire rack before serving.
