Cabbage Potato Kielbasa Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 small head cabbage
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 1 (16 ounce) package smoked kielbasa sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 slices bread, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup butter, sliced
Instructions
1
Firstly, preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take the cabbage out of the oven and give it a thorough wash to remove any dirt or debris from its outer leaves. Then, place the cleaned cabbage leaves in a 9x13-inch baking dish to cover its entire surface.
3
Then, shred the remaining cabbage and set it aside for later use. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage with diced potatoes and cooked sausage.
4
In another large mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs that have been beaten into a smooth consistency, salt, and pepper until you achieve a well-combined mixture. Fold in bread cubes to create a crumbly texture.
5
Allow the bread cubes to absorb some of the liquid mixture for 1 to 2 minutes, giving them time to become soft and pliable. Once they have done so, pour the bread mixture over the cabbage and sausage mixture in the baking dish.
6
Dot the top of the cabbage mixture with butter to add a rich and creamy texture. Finally, bake the dish in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is lightly browned.
