Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 medium head cabbage, shredded
- 1/2 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
- 1 (8 ounce) package mild Cheddar cheese, sliced
- black pepper to taste
- 2 (1 pound) loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
- butter flavored cooking spray
- 1/4 cup margarine, melted
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius. In a large and deep skillet, place the ground beef and cook over medium-high heat until it is uniformly browned. Remove excess fat by draining it off. Add the cabbage and onion soup mix to the skillet, stirring constantly for an additional 5 minutes, or until it reaches a light brown color. Set the mixture aside to cool.
2
Using one loaf of bread dough, roll it out into a 16x8 inch rectangle. Cut the dough into eight equal-sized squares, approximately 4 inches in length. Spoon a portion of the cabbage mixture onto the center of each square, followed by a small slice of cheese. Fold the dough over to form a triangle, pinching the edges together to seal the roll. Place the krautburgers on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray, allowing them to rise for about 10 minutes.
3
Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, or until they are browned. Once the rolls are warm, brush the tops with melted margarine. Repeat the process using the second loaf of bread dough and the remaining cabbage mixture, ensuring each roll is filled with the same amount of ingredients.
