Ingredients
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken, giblets removed
- salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon onion powder, or to taste
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 stalk celery, leaves removed
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary items and prepare the oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Position the chicken in a suitable roasting dish; generously sprinkle with onion powder, salt, and pepper on both the inside and outside of the chicken. Place 3 tablespoons of butter into the chicken's cavity; scatter dollops of remaining butter on the exterior surface of the chicken.
3
Cut celery into 3 or 4 sections; insert these pieces into the chicken's cavity.
4
Bake the chicken in an uncovered roasting dish for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until it reaches a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) when checked with an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone.
5
Remove the chicken from the oven and generously baste it with its own juices. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and allow the chicken to relax for about 30 minutes before serving.
