Ingredients
- 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces, at room temperature
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted, or as needed
Instructions
1
Begin by mixing yeast with warm water in a bowl, allowing it to soften and develop into a smooth, creamy foam over the course of about 5 minutes.
2
Combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, butter pieces, eggs, and salt in a bowl; then incorporate the yeast mixture, stirring until everything is thoroughly blended. Next, add the remaining 2 cups of flour and mix until a smooth dough forms. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to fully incorporate all the ingredients, then cover and let the dough rise in a warm environment until it has doubled in size, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
3
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch-wide circle, then spread 2 tablespoons of softened butter over each one. Cut each circle into 12 wedges, and begin shaping the dough into crescent rolls by starting at the wide end and rolling each wedge towards its point. Place each roll onto a greased baking sheet with the point facing downwards, and repeat the process to shape the remaining rolls. Cover them again and let the dough rise once more until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
4
Next, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), and then bake the rolls in the preheated oven until they are golden brown, taking about 12 to 15 minutes. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with melted butter for a delicious finishing touch.
