Buffalo-style Beef on Weck with Au Jus

  • 3 cups prepared au jus sauce
  • 2 pounds thinly sliced roast beef
  • 6 Kaiser rolls, split
  • 2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish

Preheat your oven to a medium-high temperature, which is equivalent to 300 degrees F (or 150 degrees C).

Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet with their cut sides facing downwards. Lightly moisten the tops of the rolls with water, then sprinkle a pinch of salt and some caraway seeds over the surface.

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven until they are nicely toasted, taking around 10 minutes to achieve this.

In the meantime, warm up the au jus sauce in a medium-sized saucepan over a moderate heat, which should take around 3 to 5 minutes. Add the roast beef and cook until it is heated through, also taking around 3 to 5 minutes.

Remove the rolls from the oven and transfer them to serving plates. Top each roll with warm beef and a generous helping of au jus sauce. Serve the horseradish on the side for added flavor.
