To prepare the cake, first collect all necessary ingredients and preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Next, lightly coat an 8-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray and dust it with flour.

In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together butter and 1/2 cup granulated sugar until the mixture reaches a light and airy consistency. Introduce vanilla extract and salt into the mixture, blending well.

Add egg yolks to the bowl one at a time, mixing until the batter is smooth and creamy.

In another bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add milk to the dry ingredients, alternating with the creamed mixture until a smooth batter forms.

In a separate bowl, gently toss 1 tablespoon of flour with blueberries. Add the blueberry mixture to the batter and fold gently into the cake mixture.

Using a separate mixing bowl, whip egg whites until they become soft and fluffy. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the cake batter.
