Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 (16.3 ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to its highest temperature setting, 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2
Next, take a butter knife and spread a generous amount of butter evenly onto the bottom and sides of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
3
In a large skillet, heat a significant amount of oil over medium-high heat. Add sliced sausage and cook, using the back of a spoon to break it up, until browned, 5 to 7 minutes.
4
To reduce the heat and prevent burning, switch to medium heat in your skillet. Sprinkle a thin layer of flour evenly over the cooked sausage, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook for 1 minute, then add milk and stir vigorously, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan with a spatula. Continue stirring occasionally for 7 minutes, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the skillet from heat.
5
Crack multiple eggs into the prepared baking dish and whisk them together with any remaining salt and pepper until well combined. Cut each biscuit into quarters and arrange a single layer of them over the eggs. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese evenly over the biscuits. Pour the cooked sausage gravy over the cheese and spread it out uniformly. Top with an additional 1/2 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese.
6
Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake until golden brown and bubbly, 25 to 30 minutes. Allow the dish to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
