Beef Patty Melt
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 6 teaspoons mayonnaise
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
Instructions
1
Prepare the ground beef by sprinkling it with salt and pepper, then divide it into three equal portions. Form each portion into a ball that closely resembles the shape of bread, taking care to maintain its rounded appearance. Create an indentation in the center of each ball using your thumb, which will aid in keeping them flat during cooking.
2
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and add the onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions become soft and translucent, typically taking 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer the cooked onions to a separate bowl for later use.
3
Add the ground beef patties to the same skillet, cooking them until they reach your desired level of doneness. This usually takes 3 to 5 minutes per side.
4
Meanwhile, apply a thin layer of mayonnaise to one side of each bread slice. Place three slices of bread, mayonnaise-side down, in the skillet.
5
Add a slice of cheese to each bread slice, followed by a beef patty, 1/3 of the cooked onions, another slice of cheese, and finally a second bread slice, mayonnaise-side up. Cook the sandwiches in the skillet until they turn golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, typically taking 3 to 4 minutes.
6
Flip each sandwich over and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
