Grilled Beef Kushiyaki Skewers
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (such as Aji-No-Moto®)
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 pound beef sirloin steak, cut paper-thin
  • 3 green onions, cut into 2-inch slices
  • bamboo skewers
Instructions
1
Combine the mirin, garlic, soy sauce, monosodium glutamate, and sugar in a bowl. Stir until the sugar is fully incorporated into the mixture.
2
Add the beef and green onions to the marinade, stirring until they are evenly coated with the sauce. Allow the mixture to rest for 30 minutes.
3
Soak bamboo skewers in water before proceeding with the recipe.
4
Preheat your oven's broiler and adjust the oven rack to a distance of approximately 6 inches from the heat source.
5
Take a thin slice of beef and wrap it around a piece of green onion. Then, thread the wrapped beef onto 2 bamboo skewers, leaving about half an inch of space between each piece. Repeat this process 3 times with the remaining beef, green onions, and skewers.
6
Arrange the skewered beef rolls on a broiling pan. Discard any remaining marinade and proceed with cooking.
7
Place the skewers under the oven's broiler and cook until they are nicely browned on both sides, approximately 3 to 3.5 minutes per side.
