Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, cut into large chunks
- 1 medium white onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 (14.5 ounce) cans green beans, drained
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (1.5 ounce) package dry beef stew seasoning mix
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, or as needed
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt, or to taste
- 2 pounds cubed beef stew meat
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 (15 ounce) can Irish stout beer (such as GuinnessĀ®), or more if needed
- 1 cup water, or as needed
Instructions
1
Combine diced potatoes, chopped onion, minced garlic, trimmed green beans, and tomato paste in a slow cooker. Sprinkle with a blend of herbs and spices commonly used in stew recipes, then pour beef broth over the top. Mix well to distribute the seasoning evenly and add a dash of savory flavor with Worcestershire sauce.
2
Heat oil in a medium-sized skillet over a moderately high heat setting.
3
Prepare a shallow dish with flour and sprinkle it with seasoned salt, then coat the stew meat in this mixture before searing it in the hot skillet, taking care to brown each batch thoroughly. Add the browned meat directly to the slow cooker.
4
Add a small amount of stout beer to the slow cooker and adjust the liquid level as necessary to ensure that all ingredients remain moist during cooking.
5
Cook on High for an extended period, approximately 6 hours, or until the meat is tender and the potatoes are soft.
