Beef and Potato Pastie
Ingredients
  • 1 recipe pastry for a (10 inch) double crust pie
  • 2 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced onion
  • 1/2 pound boneless beef round steak, cut into thin strips
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
1
Split the pastry dough into three equal portions and roll out one-third to create a 8x15 inch rectangle. Trim the edges of this rectangle and cut it into two identical 7-inch squares to place on a baking sheet.
2
Repeat the process with the remaining two-thirds of pastry dough.
3
Next, layer sliced potatoes on half of each pastry square, followed by a layer of sautéed onions and then the beef. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add a pat of butter on top.
4
To seal the pastry triangles, moisten their edges with cold water and fold them over to form tight triangles. Press the edges together firmly to create a secure seal, which helps retain steam and ensures juicy pastries.
5
Bake the assembled pastries in a preheated oven at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 1 hour, or until the meat is tender. Serve hot with your choice of chili sauce, ketchup, or pickle relish, or enjoy them cold as a sandwich filling.
